Charles University’s Discover Your Future Summer School
Go to Prague, Try Different Subjects and Come Back With More Clarity

Charles University, founded in 1348, is one of Europe’s oldest universities. Its summer programme is particularly suitable for students who are still exploring what they may want to study at university. Rather than focusing entirely on one subject, Discover Your Future introduces participants to several academic disciplines through lectures, workshops and activities involving different parts of the university. Recent programmes have included exposure to medicine, natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, sport and related areas. Based in Prague, Czech Republic, the programme is designed for international students aged 15 to 18 and combines university-level academic exposure with cultural experiences, excursions and residential life.
For students in India, this can be especially valuable during Grades 9, 10 and 11, when choices regarding IB, A Levels, undergraduate majors and future careers are beginning to become important. A student considering medicine, economics, politics or the sciences, for example, can experience different subjects before committing to one direction.
The 2026 programme was held from 12 to 25 July in Prague. Students stayed at Charles University’s Krystal Centre and participated in more than 25 hours of academic instruction per week. Classes were conducted in English. Academics are only one part of the experience. Students also develop skills such as critical thinking, presentation, debating, teamwork and leadership. The programme includes organised afternoon and evening activities, sports and cultural excursions around Prague. Previous participants have visited landmarks such as Charles Bridge and Prague’s historic centre, while full-day excursions have included destinations such as Dresden in Germany. The programme is fully residential, making it an opportunity for teenagers to experience independence in an international environment. Students live in double rooms and receive meals as part of the programme. Charles University also provides supervision throughout the programme, an important consideration for parents sending younger students abroad.
For the 2026 session, the programme fee was approximately €2,410, which covered tuition, accommodation, full board, organised activities, excursions and local public transport. International airfare, travel insurance and personal expenses were additional. Since one of the excursions may involve travel outside the Czech Republic, students should ensure that their visa and travel insurance arrangements cover all countries included in the itinerary.
The application process is relatively straightforward. Applicants are required to complete an online application, submit passport details and parental documentation, and demonstrate sufficient English proficiency. Unlike some highly selective summer programmes, Charles University does not currently advertise requirements such as SAT scores, extensive essays or multiple recommendation letters. The 2026 application deadline was 31 May 2026.
Students should understand that this is primarily an academic exploration programme rather than a prestigious admissions competition. Simply attending it will not transform a university application. Its real value lies in helping students discover subjects, experience European university life and develop greater clarity about their future college destination.
