Legends of Admissions

Behind every successful student journey is an admissions professional whose experiences, insights, and passion quietly shape countless futures. Legends of Admissions celebrates these remarkable individuals, the stories they carry, the wisdom they share, and the human moments that remind us why education truly matters. In this edition, we spotlight Daniel Marschner, whose journey across cultures, conversations, and campuses offers a warm and inspiring look into the heart of admissions.

1. An Unforgettable Travel Memory

I walked the Inca Trail in Peru, which culminated in an arrival as the sun was rising in Machu Picchu – what an incredible journey!

2. Most unexpected question a student has ever asked you

Why are you here? I think students are often surprised that someone would travel around the world to meet them!

3. If you weren't in admissions, what job would you secretly love to have

I think being a university professor in the field of International Relations would be a lot of fun - I really enjoy connecting with students in a classroom

4. What's a totally random skill you've picked up because of your job

I have the ability to pick up an item and know if it is more than 23 kg - because that is the weight limit on most international flights for one piece of luggage.

5. What's one thing you wish students knew about admissions, that they often don't

That the goal of an admission process is to find students that can be successful at a college or university - for a student, it's an opportunity to imagine an incredible future! I wish students could see the admissions process as more adventurous and less stressful.

6. If your college were a person, how would you describe their personality in three words

Innovative, Enthusiastic, Collaborative

7. What's the most oddly specific club or organization on campus

My favorite example is the Free Pizza Club - it exists only to tell you where you can find free pizza on campus
